7 cards to send this International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day (IWD) is the perfect time to honor all the women who have inspired you over the years, to show them how much you value them, and how mindful you are of the part they have played in making you the person you are today.

Sending a card and a meaningful gift is a really special way to commemorate the day. Read our inspirational guide and you will find just the right message for your friends, family, role models, and any other women who have had a positive impact on your life.

What is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day has been officially recognized since about 1911 and is celebrated every year on the 8th of March. The event is supported by organizations, institutions, charities, governments, and individuals around the world who are committed to female empowerment and gender equality.

Originally, IWD was a symbol of women’s solidarity and the fight for equal rights. Currently, it is also seen as a day to show your admiration and appreciation for all women across the world, by celebrating women’s achievements and raising awareness about discrimination.

#EmbraceEquity is the theme IWD has adopted for 2023, representing a commitment to creating a fair and equal world for all people, free of bias and stereotypes.

Did you know?

Mimosas are flowers that represent International Women’s Day. They were originally chosen by feminists in Italy in 1946 as a symbol of strength to mark the first IWD following the end of World War II.

How should I celebrate IWD and why is it important?

Whatever your gender, supporting IWD is a way to empower and express gratitude for women. It’s a special time when you can acknowledge the work, accomplishments, and rights of women.

Checking in, sharing posts, and celebrating the women in your life is easy, but if you want to go the extra mile, send a TouchNote card that serves as a forever reminder of their value to you.

1. How to say I miss you

It’s a simple phrase, yet the words “I miss you” can mean the world. It lets them know you enjoy their company and you’re eager to make more memories together.

If you have been out of touch with friends lately, International Women’s Day is a good opportunity to reach out and reconnect. Why not sign off your miss you card with an invitation to your next adventure?

“It’s been too long… How are things in your corner of the world? Let’s get together soon and catch up.”

“Sending happy thoughts to you across the miles – I’ll be coming to see you soon, so get that guest room ready!”

“I came across an old photo of the two of us today – I miss us so let’s do something fun again soon!”

2. Thank you for being you

Our friends are always there for us, offering unconditional support and a shoulder to cry on. So, send a card thanking them for their support and all the other incredible things they’ve done for you over the years.

Receiving a thank you card is a great feeling, so let your gal pals and family know how grateful you are that you have them around you.

“For my fantastic friend, thank you so much for being there for me, through good times and bad. You will never know just how much your friendship means to me.”

“Our friendship has been the most important of my life. Thanks for keeping me grounded and keeping me company when I want to do something wacky and off the wall!.”

“Happy International Women’s Day to my very best bud. Thanks for being an awesome bestie.”

“You are like a calm oasis in my frenzied and chaotic world. Thank you for being my friend.”

3. Praise the best of besties

A bit of hype can go a long way, so empower your favorite ladies by reminding them they’re the best, and that they’re capable of anything. Pick out some of their greatest qualities and remind them how amazing they are.

“You have no idea just how incredible you are! As Tina says – ‘you’re simply the best’.”

“I’m in awe of everything you’ve achieved this past year and I know you’re destined for many more great things in your life.”

“I’m celebrating you on International Women’s Day – you have done amazing things and I’m so proud of you!”

4. Take a trip down memory lane

Throw it back to your best times with a photo of holidays, graduations, and hangouts gone by. After all, who doesn’t love a fun photo that brings up old, cherished memories?

“Found this pic of us on vacation. What a great time we had! When are we going to plan our next one?”

“It doesn’t seem like 10 years since our graduation. Let’s meet soon and take another brilliant selfie now we’re all grown up.”

“Found this pic and it made me smile to see both of us looking so happy. Let’s make a date and get together soon.”

5. Pump up the girl power

Sometimes some wise words from wise women are all we need to keep on keeping on. So, why not look to some of the great women from history to spread a little empowerment?

“There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.” Michelle Obama

“I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.” Maya Angelou

“Justice is about making sure that being polite is not the same thing as being quiet. In fact, oftentimes, the most righteous thing you can do is shake the table.” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

“A girl should be two things: who and what she wants.” Coco Chanel

6. Just because…

When the gals in your life are so special, who needs a reason? Send a photo, a joke, or a compliment.

“You have always been one of a kind! Thought I would remind you about the cool pink stripey hair year.”

“Friends come and go, but a true bestie will be there to annoy you forever – That’s friendship!”

“If you fall down, I will be there to pick you up like a best friend should – after I’ve finished laughing my socks off, of course.”

7. Perfect cards for awesome role models

Role models can be moms, grandmas, big sisters, teachers, or best friends. Letting someone know they’re your role model is a huge honor. In a world of trials and tribulations, being someone’s guiding star is a gift like no other.

“To the best teacher I ever had, you taught me the most valuable lesson in life: that I can be anything I want to be.”

“It’s International Women’s Day and I just needed to thank you for teaching me that empowered women run the world!”

“Best wishes and love to the strongest, most intelligent, and wonderful woman I know – you’re the best role model a girl could have.”

It’s easy to celebrate International Women’s Day with TouchNote by sending personalized cards and gifts to all the women in your life. Honor the amazing part they have played in helping and guiding you to become the person you are today.
